LARC attends Women's Land Summit
LARC director Ms. Nolundi Luwaya and LARC researcher Nokwanda Sihlali were invited to attend the Women's Land Summit 11th of April hosted by and held at STIAS. This was a joint project of the Law Faculty Trust Chair for Social Justice, Professor Thuli Madonsela at the Faculty of Law and the Division for Social Impact, Stellenbosch University. The theme of the Summit, “Women leading the healing of the divisions of the past” is premised on the reality that women’s voices have been muted in the land reform discourse for far too long. The summit brought women of all races, disciplines and economic status together in dialogue on land reform so as to generate solutions, anchored in shared humanity and prosperity, thereby realising the Constitutional objective of healing the divisions of the past through land reform. Although we as LARC we felt strongly that issues such as not having grassroots, social movements and activists who work on the ground was extremely problematic and would push another top-down view of engaging with land, there was rigorous and engaging debates and discussions; which resulted in a resolution that was created; alongside a submission that was made to the Presidential Advisory Panel on land.
