LARC attends Corruption Watch Roundtable

13 May 2019 - 13:45

LARC land researchers Ms. Nokwanda Sihlali and Ms. Zenande Booi attended a Corruption Watch roundtable on the 13th of May alsongside other civil society organisations such as PLAAS, Ndifuna uKwazi, Phuhlisani, Development Action Group and others. Corruption Watch, an accredited chapter of Transparency International, is embarking on a research and advocacy project where we will be looking at corruption in the South African land sector. This project was initiated after they received numerous reports of rampant corruption within mining communities and agricultural communities as well as in urban settings. In light of the reports received, Corruption Watch hosted a roundtable discussion with civil society organisations who have been doing work in the land sector. This was an information sharing session that created a platform to discuss the various projects being worked on in the sector, as well as to better understand the gaps in past and present land reform policies and unpack the laws that enable corruption to thrive.
